Pro-Act Reports a Surge
in New Users After the World Dairy Expo
Warren, RI, October 10, 2007 ---- With more
than 65,000 attendees, the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin is
a true meeting place for the dairy industry. The show is known for
hosting companies that represent the most modern dairy equipment and
the newest dairy technology and innovations. One company known for
its innovative manure treatment systems, Pro-Act Microbial, was a
real draw at the 2007 Expo, wrapping up the show with many new users
signed on.
The Pro-Act representatives noticed an increase in concern this year
about government regulations and odor issues with neighbors.
“I had many conversations with farmers this week about their
problems with too many solids, odors and upset neighbors, “explains
Bill Campion, president of Pro-Act Microbial. “Some approached us
with a real plea for help.”
Not coincidentally, most of the concerned are growing farms with
over 500 cows.
“These are the farms that are doing well, increasing their herds,
producing more milk, but then comes the increase in waste,” explains
Dale Butcher, sales manager at Pro-Act Microbial. “They came to us
wanting suggestions on how to handle the increase in solids and
nutrients. I think they felt better when we talked about how our
treatment system really solves all of their manure issues. Some are
also considering the biogas digester component so they can make a
little money while treating the manure.”
A working model of Pro-Act’s treatment system was on display. From
this, attendees could see not only how the odor is much more
tolerable and how stratification occurs, but also how components can
be added to the system. One of these upgrades, Pro-Act’s affordable
biogas digester, was included in the display, showing how the farm
can capture biogases and use them to their advantage—to earn carbon
credits or turn the gases into a power source for their farm.
The new users will have their systems set up and begin their
treatment before the end of the year and should begin to see the
reduction of odor and solids soon after. As their needs change in
the future, Pro-Act can help them further benefit from their manure
treatment system by creating the biogas digester and/or the Ideal
Treatment System, which allows them to collect and profit from
biogas as well as make compliance easier with a comprehensive
nutrient management plan.
